European Tour of Bagdad Cafe Is getting RAVE reviews!!

Here's What the Press Has To Say....

(Our German Translations are not the best, but you get the idea!)
"Bagdad cafe became an error free piece of concert halls. Versatile stage action and close scene guidance provide for complete Entertainment.
Hamburg evening papers."

"...in the long run the production creates a similar feat as at that time the film, small work, concentrated, no little ueberkandidelt. A family celebration, to a certain extent, the family is rather brilliantly occupied only. And it radiates a tidy portion of warmth...The world." Stefan Hentz

"Bagdad cafe" is a small masterpiece of the German-American
director Percy Adlon, that started now its cult film "Out OF rose home" as musical. Affectionately knitted history, filled with interhuman relations."

The Jazz Foundation of America was just named the Coordinator for the New Orleans Musicians Clinic as well as other groups in the Gulf Area who are helping the musicians in New Orleans. What the Jazz Foundation is doing:
- Housing - Employment- Instruments - Legal Services -

A word from the Director: "The most beautiful example of what we've been able to accomplish down here, is when a great musician (piano/keyboards) about 70 years old, was coming down the street in my direction after my meeting with all these wonderful artists, and when I yelled to him that we had found a Wurlitzer Keyboard with removable legs, 5 octave range and an amp, he started to run toward me down the street like a ten year old kid. I got a hug like I'd just come home from a war. It made the last two weeks of 20 hour days worth every minute. Yours in service, Wendy Oxenhorn

BOB TELSON * ISABEL DE SEBASTIAN

* * JOHN MARGOLIS * *

Friday July 29, 2005 ~ 7:00 PM

Here's the kind words they share about this AMAZING Trio....

Composer/songwriter Bob Telson and his wife, Argentinian singer Isabel de Sebastian, return to NY from Buenos Aires to perform his songs from movies and more. Telson received an Oscar Nomination for his music for Bagdad Café, and Tony, Grammy, and Pulitzer nominations for The Gospel at Colonus. Telson's songs have been recorded by k.d. lang, Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, Natalie Cole, Joe Cocker, George Michael (and Benson), Shawn Colvin and tonight they will be sung by Isabel de Sebastian. Isabel was an important figure in the emergence of "rock nacional" in Argentina and has specialized in tango for over a decade and the folkloric music of her country.

It´s was a pleasure to share the bill with John Margolis who is currently starring in the Telson-Breuer-Adlon "Bagdad Cafe~The Musical."

John Margolis is an outstanding singer, songwriter, pianist, composer, arranger, producer and actor. Recently having performed in Mikel Rouses´ modern opera, Dennis Cleveland at Lincoln Center. John also found the time to record his debut CD "Christine´s Refrigerator" as well as recorded a duet with Astrud Gilberto for her latest release. "Christine´s Refrigerator is a must add to any music connoisseur´s collection…John´s style in unique to say the least."

John's a good friend of ours; he played jazz gigs with Gene years ago,
and toured with Val in 2001 on the Trans-Siberian Orchestra tour.

Now he's got a killer debut CD of his own, which is getting quite a bit
of attention on NPR. We've been digging it in the van, and recommend it
HIGHLY to you -- if you like the raspy/sexy growl of Joe Cocker,
combined with smart lyrics, sophisticated orchestration, a
unique/heartfelt/tender/occasionally wacky worldview,
and great piano playing. Just like GrooveLily, he's very difficult to
pigeonhole; John's music is in a category of one.

Listen To What Fan's Are Saying...

Beautifully eccentric, achingly romantic, wonderfully written, perfectly crafted! An incredible and moving piece of work on every level. Great songs, great arrangements great performances by John Margolis and all involved. On a par with the best work of Randy Newman, Tom Waits, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Paul Simon and even the Gershwins. A unique voice which must be heard. I am stunned! ~ Reviewer: Mick Leonard

Very very moving. Not sure I've heard songs quite like these. Especially moved by "Christines Refrigerator", "I Happen To Be Free" "Here's the Plan" and "Good With Speeches". More recently "You Think You Know Someone" growing on me more and more. This is a serious CD. Sad. Soulful. Love the vocals. Amazing lyrically. Good work and best wishes with it.

The Kidnapping of Ingrid Betancourt (formally titled ~ Missing Peace) which features "Tanta Belleza" from
Christine's Refrigerator, just WON a Big Award!

MISSING PEACE Wins **Audience Award for Best Feature**
at Slamdance Film Festival 2003 in Park City, Utah

Image hosting by Photobucket
Jan 24, 2003 PARK CITY, UT - The Slamdance Film Festival announced its winners tonight in nine categories. The feature length documentary MISSING PEACE, about kidnapped Colombian presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt (USA, 82 min, 2003) beat out stiff competition including 16 fiction and documentary films to claim the Audience Award for Best Feature.

Accepting the award were producers/directors Karin Hayes and Victoria Bruce accompanied by Juan Carlos Lecompte, Ingrid's husband and the current Managing Director of the Oxygen Green Party (Partido Verde Oxígeno) of Colombia. In accepting the award, Bruce stated, "we acknowledge the help and support of so many who have made this possible. This award is a great honor, but we cannot truly celebrate until Ingrid is returned."

MISSING PEACE is the true story of Colombian presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt, her kidnapping in February 2002 by FARC guerrillas, and her family's desperate quest to free her and keep her campaign alive. Since the beginning of her congressional term in 1994, Betancourt stirred up controversy by publicly naming names of corrupt politicians, including then President Samper who had accepted funds from drug cartels.

In the wake of her kidnapping, Ingrid's political-novice husband Juan Carlos Lecompte and her former-senator mother Yolanda Pulecio continued her campaign. They have become well known in Colombia and throughout Europe for continuing to campaign for Ingrid's beliefs and her freedom. Ingrid's story is already well known throughout Europe. The French and German governments have sent special emissaries to Colombia in unsuccessful attempts to secure Ingrid's release.

Lecompte feels that President Alvaro Uribe will listen to the United States government. "I hope this film will bring attention in the United States to the struggle of Ingrid and of all Colombians. I hope the American people will learn about Ingrid and write to their congress members so that the United States will put political pressure on Uribe to push for her release."

Since arriving in Park City, UT on Sunday, January 19, 2003 Lecompte has hit the publicity circuit hard. He has made appearances on CNN, Telemundo, and given many interviews with regional and local media in English and Spanish.
