Lyrics and Notes

This was the first song we wrote for the CD

I Happen To Be Free
Margolis, Rosler

I happen to be free I say
every time she calls me
I am game for anything today
that’s what I tell her

         though I had appointments
         I cancelled, not important
yes let’s head up to the park!
         it’s not inconvenient at all

I held my breath and didn’t ask
the question that I always mask
a picture perfect day as friends
she said “are you free Wednesday?”

I happen to be free I say
though that’s not really true
another in my calendar erased and I write
Joe’s Café at two

now Lucinda ‘bout that two o’clock
I’m sorry something else came up
I can’t commit to much these days
have you ever felt this way?

when you hope is subtle and in check
when you’re half at peace, half a wreck
                  time so sweet and incomplete
                  every day of every week

I happen to be free I say
and again I find
I’ve drawn a heart around her name
I happen to be free
I’ve drawn a heart around your name
I happen to be free
